Bait Tips
Bait tips are practical pieces of advice that help you choose, prepare, and present bait so it works better in the water. Good bait starts with the right choice for the species you are after, matching size, color, and scent to what the fish normally eat. Freshness matters: fresh or well-preserved baits are more aromatic and attractive, while stale bait can repel fish. How you prepare bait also makes a difference—crumbling, soaking, or adding friendly attractants can change texture and release scent faster. Presentation on the hook is important too; natural movement and a realistic profile make fish more likely to bite. Storage and hygiene are often overlooked but they matter for both performance and safety; keep bait cool, dry or properly frozen, and clean your gear to avoid spoilage. Pay attention to water conditions—temperature, clarity, and current all change how scent disperses and how visible your bait is. Try small experiments like altering bait size or adding a little oil or sweetener to learn what works where you fish. Finally, be patient and observant: watch how fish respond and be ready to change your approach if bites are slow.
