Method Feeder Mastery for June Tench
A key to success is preparing the groundbait so it holds together in the feeder during casting but breaks down steadily in the water.
Method Feeder
A method feeder is a fishing device and a way of presenting bait that delivers a compact parcel of feed to a specific spot on the bottom. It is a weighted frame or molded shape that you pack tightly with groundbait or a mix that stays together during the cast and then breaks up when it lands, releasing attractants. The hook bait is placed either tucked into the surface of that parcel or attached right beside it, so when fish investigate the bait they quickly encounter the hook. This approach concentrates feed in a small area, creating a strong local attraction and encouraging competitive feeding that improves hooking chances. Anglers use it for bottom-feeding species like carp and tench, and it is especially effective when you want accurate bait delivery at distance without constant rebaiting. Using a method feeder requires practice in packing the mix, choosing the right weight for the distance and water conditions, and making a steady cast so the parcel stays intact until it lands. Common baits include paste mixes, pellet crumbs, and small boilies or maggots on the hook. The technique can greatly increase catch rates, but it also calls for careful handling of fish and attention to local fishing rules.
