Prebaiting
Prebaiting is the practice of putting food into the water at a chosen spot for a period of time before you actually start fishing there. The idea is to attract fish to that area and get them used to feeding there so they are more likely to be present and confident when you fish. People do this by scattering small amounts of groundbait, particles, pellets, or natural foods over several hours or days depending on the species. It matters because when done well it concentrates fish in a predictable place, which can raise your chances of catching them and make your sessions more productive. Prebaiting also affects the behavior of fish: it can make them bolder and more likely to feed in the open, or—if overdone—so well fed that they ignore your hook bait. That is why timing and quantity are important; a good prebaiting plan balances attracting fish without spoiling their appetite. It has practical and ethical sides too: using too much or the wrong kind of bait can foul water, waste resources, or break local rules. Measuring the return on the time and bait you put in — how much it improves catch rates — helps you decide whether prebaiting is worth doing for your fishing style.
